14ha bush fire behind Jepak flats fully extinguished after two days

BINTULU (April 12): A bush fire that broke out behind the Marine Flats in Jepak here on Saturday has been fully extinguished after a two-day operation.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a team was deployed to the location about 5km away from the Bintulu fire station following a call at 1.26pm.
“The blaze involved approximately 14 hectares of bushland, with firefighters working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential areas,” it said in a statement.
Bomba said yesterday’s operations mainly involved monitoring around the af-fected, with five hotspot locations identified.
“Further inspection found no signs of the fire spreading, with only patches of smoke remaining,” Bomba said.
Separately, Bomba said as of Saturday night, 20 out of 25 hectares of bush fire along Jalan Matu-Igan near the Igan bridge in Matu has been extinguished.
“The department’s air unit’s Mi-17i aircraft conducted 10 water-bombing op-erations to put out the fire along Jalan Matu-Igan,” it said.
Another bush fire involving 13 hectares along Jalan Kampun Kut-Kampung Saai in Pulau Bruit, Daro has been fully put out after eight days of firefighting, while bush fires along Jalan Bruan-Tutus in Matu and in Kampung Penasu, Daro have also been extinguished.
