15 Jan 2020 - Prioritise safety, observe all rules when on the road, motorists reminded

BINTULU: Road users here, especially those plying the under-construction Pan Borneo Highway, have been reminded to be alert and observe all safety signs put up along the way. Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Luat, in giving the reminder, said road safety rules must be adhered to at all times particularly at accident-prone areas. “All road users must be aware of the possible danger and the factors that can contribute to a road accident,” Jack, who is the Road Safety Council divisional chairman, said yesterday during a road safety campaign held in connection with Chinese New Year. The campaign was jointly organised by the council, Road Safety Department, police, Road Transport Department, Shell MDS and other agencies. He advised motorcyclists to affix a visibility enhancement sticker at the rear of their machines to make them more visible at night to other road users. He also urged the relevant enforcement agencies to continue their respective road safety operations by placing their personnel at known accident-prone areas as well as by conducting patrols. “I also hope to see more corporate sector players, as well as private companies and nongovernmental organisations, make road safety campaigns as part of their corporate social responsibility,” Jack added. Yesterday’s campaign, held in front of Bintulu Golf Club at Tanjung Kidurong road, saw the distribution of safety vests, crash helmets and other goodies to road users.
